I Want You

There came a time in my journey when a choice had to be made: to indulge in my misery and self-pity or to turn to God to change me, lifting me above the circumstances I was in by filling me with His love, strength and goodness.There was no other way. The “poor-me” victim mentality would only keep me in the ‘pit’. Jesus sets free – I chose His way!

I Want You” is poem 4 in the series “Deliverance From a Horrible Pit”.

I Want You

I want You, precious Lord;
I want Your love to fill me;
I want Your grace sustaining,
humility to shape me,
Your mind and thoughts controlling;
I want to be fully Yours.

I want to rise above the times,
above each circumstance I find.
Letting go of things that are behind,
I’m determined to press forward
to what lies before in Glory:
the prize of Jesus Christ
and that I am made alike.

So to You I lift my soul;
without You I do fall,
become a victim of the world
and the lies and tricks it hurls.
My nature rears its ugly head
with misery, self-centredness,
resentment and with bitterness.

Your power and grace alone can keep
my heart each day in love, and meek,
in joy, in patience, gratitude,
whatever situation brews.
You, my God and Saviour,
are all I need and want
and ever to be kept in Your loving favour.
