My Deepest Need

So alone! That’s what it is like from the bottom of a pit: no-one loves or cares enough for you! But this is not true, for Jesus Christ does and we are made for relationship with Him. He satisfies our deepest need for love as no other human being can do. Discovering this truth empowers you to face almost anything.
This is the emotion spoken of in  “My Deepest Need”, Poem 5 in the series, “Deliverance From a Horrible Pit”. Links to poems 1 -4 are found at the end of this post.

My Deepest Need

Is there one who will love me,
cherish, understand me,
long for, protect me,
remove the pain, complete me?
Or must I live alone, unknown,
hurt by fellow travellers, myself, my own,
always looking, longing, thirsting,
with no passion… just existing?

No one or anything can satisfy my deepest needs.
Pleasures last a moment brief;
in their trail, pain and grief.
Why this world’s wells my soul insists to seek
when the Lord who formed me and designed
alone completes and satisfies?

His Living water runs not dry.
May Christ be my first and whole desire.
In Him alone, I do find
true love and life, am satisfied,
for my heart He fills and lights with fire.
