Everybody needs a friend;
everybody needs to be one.
But many folk are out there
who have no friend or are one.
A true friend is very precious;
his trust is like a vault.
Though an ordinary person,
he can always be relied on.
He will listen and not judge;
he’ll be there without a grudge,
yet gives you your own space,
knows the time and the right place.
Empathise – He’s always tops!
Encouragement, gives lots!
But does not allow self-pity
to rise with all its rot.
He gives help in times of need,
keeps silent when you grieve
and comforts when distressed,
hurting or depressed.
A friend with your joys rejoices
and each success praises.
He does not put down or make feel foul
when sincerely he’s your pal.
Take a look around out there!
There are countless in despair
in need of such a friend
on whom they can depend.
Up above in Heaven,
we have the best of friends.
He is closer than a brother
and cares as does no other.
He knows all there is about us,
every joy, sorrow, sadness,
yet still is true and faithful,
loves and keeps, for He is able!
Jesus bids us come to Him,
to talk with and to trust Him,
to listen and be fed
till our hearts know they’re beloved.
Oh, what a precious friend
is our infinite Friend!
Always He’s there; always He cares;
no-one need ever despair!
