In my backyard
I sit and look;
around me scratch
contented chooks.
The cat sits beside
and also looks.
A few birds flit
from tree to tree
just out of reach
full with glee.
They call each other
in tones so sweet.
My toe is nipped;
my gaze drops down,
a tiny ant
the culprit found.
Then more, an army
moving without sound.
A lizard basks
on the pebbled path;
a butterfly flutters…
then another.
They fill with joy
and make me laugh.
The more I look,
the more I see.
The air and grass
with countless teem.
In my small backyard,
God gives to me.
