The very heart of God is “giving”;
His gifts are free, abundant, living,
priceless, precious, we cannot measure.
And He gives because it is His pleasure!
To all He gives the good gifts of life,
like the sun to rise each day with light,
food to eat, good, clean air
and for His creatures daily cares.
It is God who holds the world in space;
He sends the rain and oceans place;
His Providence kind; perfect His ways;
our response should be His praise.
Instead of this, proud are our hearts;
we set our faces against Him hard
and praise ourselves or other things,
ignoring God… unbelieving.
Not one is found in the human race
who deserves God’s gifts: we all are fake.
That is why God’s gifts are grace:
they come to us in a guilty state.
So God, the Giver of all perfect gifts,
knew our need of special grace.
In love, He gave His only Son
to die for undeserving ones.
He pours on us this special grace:
His loving kindness and embrace,
removing veils which cloud our minds
to show us how our eyes are blind.
He turns our hearts around,
speaks graciously of forgiveness,
freedom, restoration and how
as His children, He receives us.
This, God’s grace, is wondrous, glorious,
given to us freely in Christ Jesus.
The price was high – His precious blood –
to take our sin, be punished for us.
God’s special grace continues to adorn us every day.
In fact, we cannot live without it
as we grow in Jesus’ ways:
to lead our paths, instructs in truth,
strengthens for the trials we face,
comforts when the heart is sad,
keeps when in life’s battles placed;
assists us in all sorts of helps
and disciplines for His children’s sake.
But best of all, He gives us grace
to change our ways and like Jesus make.
God’s grace is given whatever ‘falls;
grace is always needed for
times of poverty, times of wealth,
times of sickness, even times of health,
times of temptation, times of stress,
times of darkness, times of tests.
Grace promises each hour to light
however fearful and dark the night.
In no way we deserve God’s grace,
never can we earn it,
or buy it, find it, win it,
pretend we have it with us.
God’s gracious blessings come in Jesus
to whom He wills and chooses:
to needy souls, who in brokenness
repent, receive Him… and in Him rest.
Grace to another diamond’s wed
for grace and glory go together.
So be assured – this God said –
glory is to follow soon
when grace has reached full bloom.
Just when shall be that day
not you or I can say,
but we do know God has promised
that we’ll enjoy eternity
with Him in His glory.
Oh, how rich and great God’s grace
lavished on us through the Saviour
bringing all His glorious blessings:
His smile, His love, His favour!
